Live resin vs distillate: what is the difference?
Updated October 2, 2026
Live resin is an extract made from fresh frozen plant material, so it keeps much of the plant's original terpene profile. Distillate is a refined extract: a crude extract is distilled to concentrate the cannabinoid, which strips out most of the original terpenes, and any flavor in a distillate product is usually added back afterward.
The two differ in starting material, in process and in what stays in the finished oil. This guide sets them side by side, adds live rosin to the comparison, explains label words such as full spectrum and live terp, and shows which Freezo products use which extract.
Freezo's nine listed 2g disposables are live rosin or live resin, and several gummy listings say zero distillate or no distillate. The product links below go to the current listings.
What distillate is
Distillate starts as a crude extract. That extract is then distilled to separate the cannabinoid from the rest of the plant compounds. The result is a refined oil that is mostly one cannabinoid.
Distillation removes most of the plant's original terpenes. That is why a distillate cart often lists added terpenes or a flavor on its label. Because the process is designed to leave little of the original plant character behind, the starting material is not what defines the product.
What live resin is
Live resin is made from fresh frozen plant material. The plants are frozen instead of being dried first, and the extract is pulled with a solvent such as a hydrocarbon or supercritical carbon dioxide. The goal is to keep the terpene profile of the living plant in the finished oil.
Freezo's live resin disposables describe themselves the same way. The Arctic Cookies 2g live resin disposable listing calls it an extract made from fresh/frozen plant material, preserving rich flavor and terpene profiles.
Side by side: live resin, live rosin and distillate
| Live resin | Live rosin | Distillate | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starting material | Fresh frozen plant material | Fresh frozen plant material | A crude extract |
| Process | Extracted with a solvent | Solventless | Distilled to separate and concentrate the cannabinoid |
| Original terpenes | Kept as a goal of the process | Kept as a goal of the process | Mostly removed; flavor is often added back |
| Label words to look for | Live resin, LR, fresh frozen | Live rosin, solventless | Distillate, often with added terpenes or flavor |
Is live resin better than distillate? That depends on what you want in the ingredient list. If you want an extract that keeps the original plant terpenes, look for live resin or live rosin. If a label says distillate, expect a refined oil with flavor added afterward.
Live rosin vs distillate
Live rosin also starts from fresh frozen plant material, but it uses no solvent. Freezo describes its Frozay 2g live rosin as a solventless, fresh frozen extract. Distillate sits at the other end: it is the most processed of the three, and it is defined by what the process removes.

In a cart or disposable
In a vape, the extract is the main thing you are choosing, since the hardware holds the oil. Freezo's live rosin disposable listings describe them as filled with a solventless, freshly-frozen plant-derived concentrate. Its live resin disposable listings say they tend to cost more than standard distillate carts.
Freezo lists nine 2g disposables on October 2, 2026. Four are live rosin, listed at $36 each on October 2, 2026, and five are live resin, listed at $34 each on October 2, 2026. Every listing title names its extract.
- Live rosin: Berry Blizzard, Frozay, Polar Purp and Chilled Trainwreck.
- Live resin: Arctic Cookies, Subzero Sherbacio, Iced Apples, Snowcone and Frozen Runtz.
In the listing titles, Rosin Disposable means live rosin and LR Disposable means live resin. See all of them on Freezo THCa disposables or in the Vapes collection.
In a gummy: what zero distillate means on a Freezo label
Freezo makes two kinds of gummy: live rosin gummies and live resin gummies, each in two pack sizes. The live rosin gummy listings describe a gummy infused with solventless, fresh-frozen (live) rosin concentrate, and compare it with standard distillate edibles. Zero distillate and no distillate are Freezo's own words on several gummy listings.
| Extract | Flavors | Price by pack size |
|---|---|---|
| Live rosin | Chilled Colada, Cranblurry Kush, Mimosa Mountain, Snowmelon, Frostbite Mango | Listed at $19 and $25 on October 2, 2026 |
| Live resin | Iceberg Widow, Snow Dream Bites, Yeti Gelato, Tundra Runtz, Grape Glacier | Listed at $17.50 and $22.50 on October 2, 2026 |

What full spectrum and live terp mean
- Full spectrum: an extract that keeps a broad range of the plant's compounds instead of being refined down to one. Freezo's live rosin concentrate and gummy listings say full spectrum. Distillate is not, because distillation removes most of those compounds.
- Live terp: a label word, often for distillate with terpenes from fresh frozen plants added back. It is not the same as live resin, where the whole extract comes from fresh frozen material.
- Regular cart: an informal name, usually for a distillate cart. If a listing does not name its extract, ask the store before you buy.
How to read a listing and its lab document
- Read the product title. Freezo titles name the extract: Live Rosin, Live Resin, Rosin Disposable or LR Disposable.
- Read the description for how the extract is made, such as solventless or fresh frozen.
- Find the lab document. Freezo publishes lab documents on its Lab Results page, which you can search by product name or batch number.
- Check the product name, the product format and the lot or sample reference on the report against the packaging in hand. A matching product name on its own is not a match. A laboratory sample reference is not always the same number as the batch code printed on a package.
Freezo ships nationwide. Shipping terms are on Shipping and Payment. You must be 21 or older, and age is verified at checkout.

Questions and answers
What is the difference between live resin and distillate?
Live resin is made from fresh frozen plant material and keeps much of the plant's original terpene profile. Distillate is a refined extract that is distilled to concentrate the cannabinoid, which removes most of the original terpenes.
Is live rosin the same as distillate?
No. Live rosin is a solventless extract made from fresh frozen plant material. Distillate is a refined oil made by distilling a crude extract.
What is a distillate cart?
A vape cartridge filled with distillate, a refined oil. Flavor in a distillate cart usually comes from terpenes or flavor added after distillation.
What does full spectrum mean on a label?
It means the extract keeps a broad range of the plant's compounds instead of being refined down to one. Freezo's live rosin concentrate and gummy listings say full spectrum; distillate is not.
What is live terp?
A label word, often for distillate with terpenes from fresh frozen plants added back. Live resin is different: the whole extract comes from fresh frozen plant material.
Do Freezo disposables use distillate?
Freezo's listed 2g disposables are live rosin or live resin. On October 2, 2026 Freezo listed four live rosin and five live resin 2g disposables, and each listing title names its extract.
Do Freezo gummies use distillate?
Freezo makes live rosin gummies and live resin gummies. Several Freezo gummy listings say zero distillate or no distillate in their own words.
